I wish you did, too. I’m not going to debate whether 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis.

Holocaust reparations are based on exacting standards prepared by the German government, based on documented specific injury, e.g., loss of parents, loss of a child, disability due to maltreatment, etc. Restitution is based on documented property seized by the Nazis.

With all that documentation, much of it from contemporary German sources, there is no room for cynical doubt.

Holocaust reparations have been paid only to actual victims of the Nazis, not to their descendants. For how many generations are people whose families were not even part of pre-Civil War America to pay cash reparations to their black fellow-citizens?

Sure, there are many remaining consequences of slavery, but these need to be, and are being addressed through broad social programs such as affirmative action.

And why just Americans? How about England, which had a flourishing slave trade? How about the Arab slave traders? What about Egypt, which reportedly kept the Hebrews as slaves for over 200 years—do they owe today’s Jews reparations?

It’s funny and sad how white and black Americans are obsessed with the Holocaust but let someone mention reparations for slavery and watch their heads spin around like the girl in the Exorcist.

You’re right. $8 billion is $1,333 over 62 years, or $21.50 a year for each victim. Outrageous!
