Bubbles of Delusions

Filed under: Religion - Cynthia @ 9:57 pm

If you are religious, you do not want to listen to this You Tube video. It basically says that people who believe in religions are living in their own little bubble of delusion.

A planet of delusional people is dangerous because rational thought is replaced with superstition. In fact, the delusion of religious thoughts makes you discard rational thoughts. If you want to heal, you must be willing to live outside of your bubble of delusion.

  1. The gentleman who made this cute little video is under the delusion of secular humanism, which he arrogantly assumes is “better” believing in Christianity, Islam, and Mormonism. Everything he says is subjective and he provides no real proof that his assertions about the falseness of, as he sees it, events put forth by religious text.

His premise is, “OF COURSE that didn’t happen, it’s ridiculous!” So the thrust of his argument is the plausibility of the events in question. Pretty weak and not very compelling.

He also makes the statement, more than once (as do you), that religion is bad for the planet, and without specific reasons. You would have a tough time proving that religion has done more harm than good throughout history.

Bullfrog: I tried to warn you. All I was doing was giving a synopsis of what he said.

  2. I guess I thought you were warning “religious” folks that a really intelligent, compelling argument that would shake the very foundation of what they believe was on the other side of that link.

    I guess not so much…

  3. I think that is an awful thing to say. I do think that people who follow along with organized, and especially patriarchal religious structures are delusional and moreseo complicit in oppressive structures. However, I believe spirituality, a connection to one’s own soul if no one else’s, is absolutely necessary.

  4. Go to google and look up Network of Spiritual Progressives…I think I have a link on my blog though. That is a great effort by Rabbi Michael Lerner and Cornel West.
