Obama for President or VP?

Filed under: National Politics - Cynthia @ 1:10 pm

From everything I’ve been reading and hearing about Obama, it appears he is either going to be the Democratic Presidential nomination or at the very least, the VP to whomever is the Democratic pick. The Irregular Times, News Unfit for Print has been selling Presidential Dream Ticket items and it appears in every single combination Barack Obama is the central player.

In December 2006, Irregular Times sold over 200 of these items; Barack Obama took the presidential position in most of the running-mate items. Obama is not only dominant: he is also central.

I wonder if the stats are still the same now. It is being speculated that if Gore wins the Nobel Prize for his environmental piece, he will be pressured into running for the President and Obama will be his running mate. Only time will tell.

Gourmet raw…

Filed under: Health - Cynthia @ 4:52 pm

In general, I HATE cooking. However, I’m really enjoying preparing raw gourmet foods. On 3/10 I prepared some gourmet raw food for a CD release party. Some people came to me later and told me they did not think they would like the food and they were pleasantly surprised at how good the food taste.

The menu included Faux Salmon; stuff baby bella mushrooms with cheese made out of raw cashews and other ingredients, dehydrated to give the mushrooms the semi-cooked appearance and taste; Cashew spread including other ingredients; dehydrated flax seed crackers made with various types of vegetables; and dehydrated kale marinated in olive oil, cayenne pepper, garlic, fresh squeezed lemon, Braggs liquid aminos and apple cider vinegar, and two Ethiopian spices (Berbere and Awaze). I should mention the dehydrated Kale is semi-equivalent to potato chips, but instead of them being made from potatoes, they are made from Kale. The Kale chips absolutely melt in your mouth. I am having some tonight (yum, yum). I can’t wait.

Since I’ve been on the mostly raw diet, I’ve lost a total of 32 pounds. I think my weight has stabilized. The weight is definitely noticeable. With my height (5’8"), I’m beginning to look skinny to people. I wear a size six now. I was in a restaurant recently and the waitress blurted out, wow you have lost a lot of weight. She said she almost didn’t recognize me. The good thing about the diet is – you can eat as much as you want without the guilt and the pounds.

I have a friend who owns an African centered bookstore/center and she asked me to sell my Kale chips and crackers in her store. I told her, I don’t have the right equipment to mass produce any items at this time and I will think about her offer.

New Rules - Traitors don’t get to question my patriotism.

If you don’t watch Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO - you should check out the video of his latest show.

Excerpt: What could be less patriotic than constantly screwing things up for America? You know, it’s literally hard to keep up with the sheer volume of scandals in the Bush administration.

In Secret, Polygamy Follows Africans to N.Y.

Filed under: Miscellaneous - Cynthia @ 3:57 am

A tragedy with a twist. In America, a man will not be able to get away with just bringing another woman home and saying, "this is my wife too, get used to it, she will be staying with us".

The New York Times – Polygamy in America, outlawed in every state but rarely prosecuted, has long been associated with Mormon splinter groups out West, not immigrants in New York. But a fatal fire in a row house in the Bronx on March 7 revealed its presence here, in a world very different from the suburban Utah setting of “Big Love,” the HBO series about polygamists next door.

The city’s mourning for the dead — a woman and nine children in two families from Mali — has been followed by a hushed double take at the domestic arrangements described by relatives: Moussa Magassa, the Mali-born American citizen who owned the house and was the father of five children who perished, had two wives in the home, on different floors. Both survived.

Republican Party in decline since 2002

Filed under: National Politics - Cynthia @ 3:42 pm

Is anyone surprised? I’m also unhappy with the Democratic Party but there are no viable alternatives. It would be nice if this trend meant that a shift to a third party is forthcoming.

Public allegiance to the Republican Party has plunged since the second year of George W. Bush’s presidency, as attitudes have edged away from some of the conservative values that fueled GOP political dominance for more than a decade.

I’ve always wondered how the Republican Party became synonymous with conservative Christian values. I was taught that Christian values included sharing with the community. It appears those who believe in Christianity was/is/were/are confused about their own religion. With all of the scandals and what the Republicans stood for in the first place, one has to wonder how anyone could have ever mis-identified the Republican Party with conservative values.

The survey found a "dramatic shift" in political party identification since 2002, when Republicans and Democrats were at rough parity. Now, half of those surveyed identified with or leaned toward Democrats, while only 35% aligned with Republicans.

The persistence of two America

Don’t you just get tired of these types of antics aimed to oppressed Black folks? Can’t we just catch a break?

Blacks suffer most in U.S. foreclosures. Blacks are 3.8 times more likely than whites to receive a higher-cost home loan even if they make more money and have better credit scores.
