Global warming shouldn’t be a poltical issue

Filed under: National Politics, Environment - Cynthia @ 11:41 am

There is something to this global warming regardless of how this Republican administration and corporate giants are trying to spin (twist) the evidence. The temperatures in Chicago have been warmer than normal. December, January, and half of February are generally brutally cold. When I say cold, we are talking about sub-zero temperatures. We may have had a few cold days below 20, but on average, the temperatures have been ranging in the upper 30’s to the lower 50’s. This is actually a heat wave for us. It’s nice and disturbingly eerie to see green grass in Chicago in January.  I don’t ever remember noticing this before.

2007 could be the hottest year on record

Deepening drought in Australia. Stronger typhoons in Asia. Floods in Latin America. British climate scientists predict that a resurgent El Niño climate trend combined with higher levels of greenhouse gases could touch off a fresh round of ecological disasters—and make 2007 the world’s hottest year on record.

  1. Here is a quirky video about global warming I thought you might find interesting:

  2. I think that your assertion that Global Warming is validated by your experience is pretty subjective, especially considering EVERY person has been thoroughly indoctrinated with the fear that we may suddenly be overcome by some terrible disaster because of our consumption.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for stewardship of our resources, but I have read that during the time when dinosaurs were around, there were some pretty drastic temperature changes and they didn’t drive SUV’s.

I think we need a balance of stewardship and common sense and that starts with getting information to people without a political spin, this is the part that may be impossible to accomplish.

  5. Just like Al Gore discovered the Internet, he discovered global warming. Personally I’d rather stick my hopes on the tooth fairy.

  6. Cynthia,
I came over here expecting to see something about the recent campaigns (exploratory committees) that have been set up for the presidential election. Where are you?

  7. That people are still doubting that global warming exists just blows my mind. The polar ice caps are shinking. This is a self-perpetuating thing. The ice caps reflect hear. Less ice caps, less heat reflection = less ice caps = less heat reflect, ad nauseum. Whole colonies of coral are dying because the ocean water has become too warm.

Has it happened before? Yes, but usually because of a huge volcanic explosion or a meteor collision. Is it a natural phenomenon? Sure, if you can discount the huge amounts of heat created by our ever increasing consumption of energy souces.

You can ignore it if you like, but if you own property in Manhattan, I might suggest that now is a really good time to sell.
