The man they call Obama

Filed under: National Politics - Cynthia @ 10:06 pm

Does Obama have a real chance of winning the presidency in 2008? Or is he a mirage that dissipates into nothingness as Glen Ford suggests when he talks about Barack Obama: The mania and the mirage? If you analyze Obama’s words, he is gifted at saying absolutely nothing while exciting the masses with his empty rhetoric. If you analyze his record, one can conclude he will not be an instrument of change, but instead, he is part of that whole Washington machine.

Sam Smith of Undernews revisited Obama’s 2004 speech since it was this speech that was/is responsible for launching his career as a presidential contender. He said:

“Obama was sending a signal to the establishment that he wouldn’t cause any trouble, that he was willing to join the extremist center, that most dangerous faction of American politics – the one that starts wars, destroys the environment, and celebrates economic equality all the time bragging about how moderate it is”.

What does this mean for Black America, the Democrats most loyal constituents? Being a moderate, Obama is sending a clear message to Blacks that I am not beholden to you. In fact, Obama demonstrated his lack of loyalty by endorsing the current Mayor over two qualified Black candidates even though on the Mayor’s watch (among other things) as the DA over 100 Black men were tortured and forced to confess to crimes they didn’t commit. The person that was responsible for the tortures were shielded, given his pension and now lives in Florida. This article at the moment may be correct, Obama’s appeal to Blacks remain an open question. It’s clear to some, the Democrats in general favor Clinton over Obama and people are speculating that Blacks will vote for Clinton instead of Obama, this – in my opinion, will prove interesting as times goes on. One has to wonder how a political candidate can be anti-his/her most loyal constituents and expect them to be loyal to him/her.

At this moment in time, I don’t want Obama to be the first Black President of these United States.

Elimination of the minimum wage by GOP

Filed under: National Politics - Cynthia @ 12:00 pm

The Senate GOP leadership tried to eliminate the federal minimum wage.  Here is a list of the 28 Senators who tried killing the measure. At least one, maybe two of them are presidential candidates.

Why do you think the GOP hate the working poor?

It’s all about Cynthia

Filed under: Miscellaneous - Cynthia @ 4:35 pm

I’ve been really busy lately and a lot is on my plate. There are a lot of things I would like to talk about, but in this post, it is all about me.

I spent a lot of time preparing for a review with my thesis committee. The meeting went extremely well. The Chairman asked me how much time I needed before I finished my thesis. I said, I wanted to do a few minor experiments that my PI wants me to do and I could have my thesis finalized by the end of March beginning of April at the latest. I haven’t set the date yet, but I am done! Yay for me. When your committee tells you to write your thesis and hand it in, you are done. It’s been a long journey, but I can see the rainbow at the end of this tunnel. With this news, I’ve started actively looking for a job. I sent out several CVs. I applied for a job that would be a good jump-start to my career. However, I absolutely do not believe in the cause this position is advocating.  After reading the qualifications, the work I will find interesting, and I know I will do a good job because the work I’m required to do is definitely mentally challenging.

On a different note, I’ve been doing a mostly raw food diet for the past 6 – 8 months and I have lost enough weight that 1) people have noticed and 2) I weigh less than 130 pounds. Again, Yay for me. I’ve become really creative at making raw food not taste like it is raw with The Raw Gourmet. The recipes are simple and delicious. In addition, once a month, I attend a raw food event. You’ll be surprised at the recipes you can pick up and modify for your own personal taste. We had a Kwanzaa celebration where I featured gourmet raw food and people were really surprised at how good the food taste. I’ve had several requests from various people to prepare food for them and they are more than willing to pay me for my services.

In addition to losing weight, there are other perks to eating live. I went to get my drivers license renewed and discovered I can see clearly without glasses. My immune system appears to be working more efficiently. Last Monday, I went to bed with a sore throat and the next day, my sore throat was gone. This is the first time this has happened. Normally, when I get a sore throat, I have to take lozenges to manage the pain. My favorite is this, my skin looks better and this is very important to someone who doesn’t wear makeup…

Hip Hop Hypocrisy: When Lies Sound Like the Truth

Filed under: National Politics, Miscellaneous - Cynthia @ 1:41 pm

This book shows how you can get a group of people to destroy themselves. America(ns) should never talk about morality to anyone.

Read Hip Hop Hypocrisy to discover the disturbing answers to the following questions:

  1. What 15 social-historical behaviors do gangsta rappers and the KKK share?
  2. What seductive technique is used by both gangsta rappers and pedophiles to tease, titillate, and psychologically trap children?
  3. Could lyrical misogyny be a symptom of gender-bending and Prolonged Adolescent Syndrome?
  4. Why do gangsta rappers get more air time than socially conscious rappers?
  5. What satanic themes lurk behind Christian symbolism?
  6. Have "nigga," "bitch," and "pimp" been flipped to mean something positive?
  7. What 10 marketing commandments must gangsta rappers follow?
  8. How do some lyrics and music videos promote drug addiction, violence, misogyny, and bling consumerism/materialism?
  9. What is gangsta rap saying to the world about the African American community?

Coin shortage could turn pennies to nickels

This is good news for penny saving Queens like me.

A potential shortage of coins in the United States could mean all those pennies in your piggy bank could be worth five times their current value soon.

Global warming shouldn’t be a poltical issue

Filed under: National Politics, Environment - Cynthia @ 11:41 am

There is something to this global warming regardless of how this Republican administration and corporate giants are trying to spin (twist) the evidence. The temperatures in Chicago have been warmer than normal. December, January, and half of February are generally brutally cold. When I say cold, we are talking about sub-zero temperatures. We may have had a few cold days below 20, but on average, the temperatures have been ranging in the upper 30’s to the lower 50’s. This is actually a heat wave for us. It’s nice and disturbingly eerie to see green grass in Chicago in January.  I don’t ever remember noticing this before.

2007 could be the hottest year on record

Deepening drought in Australia. Stronger typhoons in Asia. Floods in Latin America. British climate scientists predict that a resurgent El Niño climate trend combined with higher levels of greenhouse gases could touch off a fresh round of ecological disasters—and make 2007 the world’s hottest year on record.
