Can you believe the majority of the CBC
Wouldn’t back Cynthia McKinney but had the nerves to stand behind William Jefferson when Pelosi asked him to resign from the ways and means committee. This man was caught in an FBI sting. For God’s sake, he had $90,000 in his freezer.
Last year on my old blog, I talked about a crack in the CBC here and here. Part of this crack included William Jefferson.
Last year the CBC became the victim of an unprecedented rightwing money and media offensive. Six members made up a core of defectors that deviated from the CBC’s proud 36-year progressive tradition. Those members are - Harold Ford, Jr. (TN), Artur Davis (AL), David Scott (GA), Sanford Bishop (GA), Albert Wynn (MD), and William Jefferson (LA).
If you want to see how wide this crack has become, all you have to do is follow the money trail.
It’s time for the CBC to clean house. None of this would have occurred if Jefferson and others hadn’t deviated from the CBC’s tradition. Maybe this will be a lesson to the other knuckleheads, united you will be victorious, but divided you will be picked off one by one.
I wonder why Bush ordered the documents seized from Jefferson’s house to be sealed for 45 days?

Has he been indicted yet? I don’t think so. It seems a little premature to ask someone to stop down until they’ve been indicted.
Hard to speak up with $90k in the fridge but Pelosi seemed a little fast here…
This is going to look like playing the race card but Delay waited for an indictment before stepping down; so should Jefferson.
On a related note, do you think Cynthia McKinney would have received the same treatment Kennedy did if she crashed her car over at the Capital. I think not.
I don’t think the race card will work here, last month Pelosi pressured Alan Mollohan to step down from the House Ethics Committee because of serious allegations of corruption. Therefore, Mollohan preceded Jefferson in getting “chosen” to step down, so the race card won’t work here.
As far as Cynthia McKinney is concerned, it appears she will get shafted no matter how trivial the charges are.
