The reason that the immigrant issue is so intense is because its a race and class issue. There is only one thing that Americans hate more than people of color and that is poor people of color.

The only thing about this is that Mexican at one time petitioned the government to be classified as white. When they saw that there were monies set aside for minorities, at that point they petitioned to be reclassified as as minority. Therefore, the Mexicans that are here can't be really classified as people of color. FYI - This is why people of European decent are now being called non-Hispanic Whites to distinguish them from Hispanic Whites.

I was reading a report that said border patrol captured 400,000 illegal immigrants crossing the mexican in the first three months of the year. In that that same timeframe, about 850 illegal immigrants were caught while trying to cross the Canadian border.

After what Beloved said about the terrorists, I talked to someone about this and they knew of several non-white immigrants crossing the Canadian border at the many checkpoints that are not guarded. I was told that these people literally walked across the border into the U.S. I wonder what percentage (if any) of the illegal immigrants coming from Canada is white.

That's why this whole thing about war on terror is a bunch of bull. The simple things that the government could easily control aren't being done. Then (we) the citizens are led to be all up in arms over things like immigration that aren't going to be solved anyway. :-(

Nah, I don't think that Canadians are coming over in droves. Trying to compare problems with the northern border and southern border is like comparing apples and oranges. I do, however, think that there needs to be some "fuss" over the northern border. Not because of the immigration factor, but because two (I think) recent terrorists have crossed the border from Canada.

Very interesting. I hadn't thought about this.
